Mock Trial Endowment Fund
The St. Clair County Bar Association has established the St. Clair County Bar Association Mock Trial Fund with the Community Foundation of St. Clair County to help support the special progams, projects and operations of Mock Trial.
The continuation of the St. Clair County Bar Association Mock Trial Program is dependent on a number of constants: the partnership between the Bar and very dedicated teacher coaches; garnering student interest and participation; a strong and committed volunteer base; and, generous financial support.
“If Mock Trial is to continue, consideration must be given now to the management of the program in the foreseeable future, including who will manage, as well as how the program will be managed to cultivate the constants, with an eye toward sustaining growth and enthusiasm. It is necessary that we create that vision now, and to put in place safeguards to assure our future St. Clair County High School students the opportunity to participate in Mock Trial, where students glean incredible insights into our American system of self-government, while having great fun. The St. Clair County Bar Association Mock Trial Endowment Fund through the St. Clair County Community Foundation is the first step in our planning for the future,” said Judge Cynthia Platzer.
The short term vision is to scholarship at least the entry fee to the MCCE Regional Competition (currently $250 per team) for all St. Clair County Bar Association Mock Trial schools wishing to participate, and, eventually, to fund a paid Mock Trial Program manager/coordinator to assure the continuity of excellence and longevity.
Jackie Hanton, Community Foundation vice president, said, “Mock Trial is a great opportunity for high school students to grow and develop their public speaking skills and test their higher level thinking skills. I am very pleased that we have established an endowment fund at the Foundation so that future generations of students will have resources available to support Mock Trial.”
